Mortgage Insurance & Other Optional Products
An optional product is an insurance or membership product that is periodically offered to our customers. When you agree to purchase these products, the monthly fee is added to your monthly HomEq payment. Examples of these are life and accidental death policies that will pay off the HomEq remaining balance in the event of death, home warranties, disaster mortgage protection, and membership products that offer benefits directly to the customer. None of these can be added to your monthly payment without your verbal or written consent.
These products/services are offered through two marketing methods:
- Direct Mail - the product/service provider mails the solicitation directly to the customer, and the customer completes the enrollment form and returns it directly to the product/service provider, approving the monthly fee to be added to their monthly mortgage payment.
- Statement Inserts - the customer completes the enrollment form and returns it with their monthly payment. The servicer in turn forwards the enrollment form to the product/service provider. The signed enrollment form constitutes approval on the part of the customer for the monthly product/service fee to be added to their monthly mortgage payment.
Canceling Optional Products
To cancel optional products, you will need to contact the product/service provider directly. In some cases, the product/service provider will request a written cancellation, but in most cases, these products can be canceled over the phone.
